Joyful Noise Acres Farm: Happy 4th of July
What an extraordinary task our founding fathers set out to do and did with eloquence, courage of conviction and a vision for a future nation that had never been established. We are so blessed to call ourselves United States citizens, aren’t we?
We have an abundance of summer vegetables rolling in from the gardens; squash, green beans, sweet corn and more. The wild blackberries from Weedy Soil Farm were so tart and sweet – flavor explosion in your mouth!
Cedar Rock Dairy has buttermilk available this week. Freeze it in smaller portions to use in baking cornbread, hush puppies, pancakes or chocolate cake. Fantastic.
Pick-up is Wedenesday between 12 and 4. We look forward to seeing you then.

This message is from Amanda at Rockin’ H Farm about goat’s milk jar deposits…
Hi there!
We just wanted to drop you a message to say thank you for purchasing our wonderful raw goat milk through Gwinnett Locally Grown!
IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME PURCHASING FORM US We are now delivering in PLASTIC jugs. Our milk is stored in glass jars while on the farm, to help reduce waste but also to prevent anything leaching into your delicious milk. Right before delivery to the market, it is transferred into plastic jugs for convenience and ease for our customers and Cheryl running the market. These plastic jugs will be one time use.
IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED FROM US PREVIOUSLY We will be at the market on Tuesday JULY 7TH for the first hour to collect glass jars and refund jar deposits. WE will be using the plastic jugs from now on, so they will be easier to handle and you will not have to worry about bringing back jars anymore!
Please remember to bring back your jars to us. IF you would rather bring them back tomorrow, that would be great as well, and then we can just have deposit refunds available to pick up next week. If you do this, please write your name on a slip of paper and put it in the jars so we know who brought what.

In other news….
We are looking for someone who would like to manage the Gwinnett Locally Grown market! Cheryl took it over on a temporary basis when Debbie was sick and had to give it up. Cheryl is busy doing other interests on the Farm so we are looking for a foodie with a love of healthy food and people to manage Gwinnett Locally Grown. If you are interested or know someone who is, please email us at grow@ranchoalegrefarm.com!
What’s up with the Salmon?
Back in Time Farm will be supplying Alaskan Wild Caught salmon through his son, Running Wild Alaskan Seafood, LLC.
This deliciously fresh salmon is carefully selected directly from the fishermen’s nets from the cold Alaskan waters before it ever enters the ship’s hold. Only the best is chosen to become part of " Running Wild Alaskan Seafood’s" premium offerings. The fish is immediately bled and iced down before making the short boat ride to the processor located in Homer, Alaska. Here it is quickly processed and flash frozen (to ensure freshness) then packed into coolers for the overnight trip to Georgia. This is the freshest salmon available without going to Alaska to catch it yourself. Red Sockeye salmon is packed with flavor and nutrition.
We are within a week or so of having this salmon at our very own market! The packages will be 8 ounces and sell for $9.50 a pack.
I have emailed all those interested that emailed me and I will be making sure that when they place their orders, they have priority. But there will be enough for Market sales. This will be the first catch and then we are hoping for a second catch 3 weeks later, but that isn’t guaranteed yet.
So watch for the email to buy coming in about a week or two.
As Always….
Please share with friends and family about us so that we can give more people the opportunity to buy and eat healthy! Local farmers need our support to keep providing us with all the fresh foods! If we don’t give them enough business, it’s hard for them to continue to deliver to us. Please let’s not let that happen! Tell your friends about us so we can keep the Growers supported as this is how they make their living.
Thank you to all of you who support Gwinnett Locally Grown!
If there is something you’d like to see in the Market, please let me know! I would love your input!
Remember…
The Market is extending their hours! The Market will now be open from 4:00 to 7:00pm!
Having said that, if you place an order with us, PLEASE remember to pick it up on Tuesday. As I am so grateful for your orders, I also have a family at home waiting on me too! We cannot hold orders, especially cold items due to limited refrigeration space, so please be courteous and come for your order.

CSA Farmers Market: Market News and Growing Season Update
More Help Has Arrived and thank goodness for that, I have been doing so much double duty that at the Rochester Farmers Market my tongue got twisted. It was cold and rainy and the wind chilled my hands to numbness, I was so impressed with the customers that braved the weather that I would say “Thank you for braving the weather” and ask if they wanted to try some cheese. One couple came by and I said “Thank You for coming are you brave enough to try some cheese”. I got a funny look as they walked away.
Lauren Russell has arrived to rescue me she will be helping with the weblog and is going to breathe new life the listless Facebook Page.
Law Family Farm and White Pine Farm have summer squash available.
The purple peppers are just starting to ripen. Zuchinni and Yellow summer squash is coming into season.
Lettuce is back and the shade cloth on the hoop house so it should stay fresh for a longer time.
Strawberries from Bear Lake had a bad growing season so many people who ordered the berries did not get them.
Almar Orchards said the trees are blossoming well so expect some great apples late summer to early winter.
Until Next Time

Vacation Hold – Produce Boxes
Just a reminder if you are going to be away on vacation please make sure you put a “vacation hold” on your Nature’s Garden Express produce box if you are scheduled to receive one. You can simply do this online or give NGE a call and they can set it up for you. If you get an email from them on Friday with your box menu that means your box is NOT on hold and will be delivered Tuesday. As always you can delete your box order before their Monday morning deadline.
Grass Fed Ground Buffalo and Pastured Chicken Breasts
Carrell Farms and B&G Farms will list as soon as these items are back in stock! It will either be in time for this market or next week. Thanks for your patience! Both these items are big sellers at our market and they run out quickly!
My Daily Bread
Due to some health issues they will probably be on the market in 2 weeks. I will send out a reminder. Please keep Dabrielle in your prayers!
Mountain Fresh Creamery (repeat)
We will no longer have Mountain Fresh Creamery on the market. The supplemental feed they give their cows contains GMOs. I am currently looking for a new dairy to provide us low temp pasteurized milk. I will keep you all updated. In the meantime, please consider Cedar Rock Dairy and Lil Tots Estate.
New Items
New! Marshmallow Treats from KKD! These all-natural crispy treats are made with nutritious brown rice and homemade marshmallow . Flavors available are Sticky Toffee, Hot Cocoa, Very Berry and Coconut Creme. These are definitely an upgraded version of the rice krispies treats from my childhood! :-)
Looking for an easy side dish for dinner?
Try Rapid Gourmet Couscous Cranberry Almond mix during the steamy days of summer. Serve as a side with your favorite chicken recipe. Or add a salad and it’s a perfect light and delicious meal! Another option is to add some diced chicken or ham, broccoli, diced carrots and green onion for a one pot meal. You can serve cold or hot.
Buttermilk – Raw Jersey Cow Milk for Pets (Plastic Jug)
Here are several ideas for using buttermilk:
- Bake with it.
- Make a batch of pancakes and/or biscuit.
- Make a creamy salad dressing.
- Use it in frozen treats
- Use it in a smoothie to make it tangy and rich.
Beets – Detroit Red (Small)
Here are a few of my favorite ways to eat beets.
Raw! – Yes, beets are quite good raw. Slice them up and serve them with a sprinkle of sea salt, pepper, chili and lemon juice. Eat them by themselves or add them to your salad.
Roasted with goat cheese! Roast beets in a preheated 400 degree oven until they are fork tender and juicy, Then add some spicy greens and goat cheese. Add some pine nuts or walnuts and you’re in heaven.
Pickled! – Pickled beets are just wonderful. The tangy vinegar and sweetness complements beets’ earth under notes. Here’s a recipe to try for old fashioned pickled beets http://thenourishingcook.com/fermented-pickled-beets/
I haven’t tried grilling them yet but that’s on my list!
